Convert HEIC to JPG: open iPhone photos anywhere
Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos in HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) by default. HEIC files are about half the size of comparable JPGs, but many programs, websites and upload forms still cannot open them, especially on Windows and older Android phones. Converting HEIC to JPG makes your photos universally compatible in seconds.
Drop in one photo or an entire camera-roll export: each HEIC file is decoded in your browser and saved as a high-quality JPG at its full original resolution. Your personal photos are never uploaded, which matters for pictures of family, documents or anything private.
Stop your iPhone from creating HEIC files
- Open Settings, then Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible to shoot in JPG from now on.
- Or keep HEIC on the phone and set Settings, Photos, Transfer to Mac or PC to Automatic, so photos are converted to JPG when copied to a computer.
Converted in your browser, never uploaded
Every conversion runs inside your browser. Images are read from your device into memory (RAM), decoded, redrawn on an HTML5 canvas and saved straight to your downloads, so personal photos never touch a server, are never stored and cannot be seen by anyone else. There is no upload wait, no file-count limit and no watermark. Converted files keep their full resolution; camera metadata such as GPS location is not copied into the new file.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't Windows open HEIC files?
HEIC uses the HEVC (H.265) codec, which Windows does not include by default for licensing reasons. You need to install the HEIF Image Extensions and HEVC Video Extensions from the Microsoft Store, and the HEVC extension may be paid. Converting to JPG avoids the problem entirely.
Is the image resolution preserved when converting HEIC to JPG?
Yes. The JPG has exactly the same width and height as the original HEIC photo, for example 4032×3024 pixels for a 12-megapixel iPhone photo. Only the file format changes.
Why is the JPG larger than the HEIC file?
HEIC compresses roughly twice as efficiently as JPG, so the same photo needs more bytes as a JPG. Lower the quality to about 80% if you need smaller files; the difference is rarely visible.
Are Live Photos supported?
The still image of a Live Photo is converted. The short video part is stored separately by the iPhone and is not included in the JPG.
